Hult GCC 2012 - Innovative Ideas in Housing (FEATURE)
(HN, 4/23/12) - The mission of the 3 year-old Hult Global Case Challenge is to collectively overcome social challenges in education, energy and housing; to solve global poverty on a grass-roots level utilizing the world’s largest crowd-sourcing initiative to seek ideas and solutions from the world’s best and brightest future business leaders. In partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative NGO members meet their own `Commitment to Change' when working with the bright minds of the Hult Global Case Challenge.
This year, the Hult GCC has focused its attention and challenge work on solving Poverty through step change innovation in Energy, Housing and Education; working with One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), SolarAid and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Here you'll see just some of the ideas presented to the panel of judges related to Education and OLPC's Challenge, whose winners will be announced later this week:
The Challenge: Can HFHI find the right combination of partnerships, innovative business models, and scalable housing solutions to reach 50 million people (10 million homes) in ten years?
Description: Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi . Our solution entails extending credit worth $2000/family, $1600 of which will be used for house construction activity, and remaining $400/home to be pooled for starting Self Help Groups towards employment generation, with support from HFHI and Corporates. Repayment of credit will be happening in denominations as low as 10 Cents/day/head within next 10 years, completing the sustainable business model. The uniqueness of this model is that not only is it self-sustainable and scalable, but it can be customized to suit local conditions while replicating the business cycle across the globe as well.
Description: By Ayfadg. We propose a combination of synergies + councils + MAIN fund raising event, TELEHOME, to achieve the goal set by the challenge. The correct integration of the three main sectors that play a role in society for this purpose, aligned towards the same goal, build home for 50 million people.
Description: By Ankenigmatic. Our proposal is to replace slums with multi storied low cost apt which will free space for commercial project.
Description: By TheTanyaTang. Our solution is a combination of investments and donations (=investonation). Set up an investment-fund that will on-lend to affordable housing solutions providers and pays an impact adjusted return. Donations are made via a deposit product that will pay a fixed interest return, and make donations of any surplus to the fixed rate.
